About Stacy Vaughn Davis

I have been a full time working Artist since I graduated High School in 1986. I was born and raised here in the Upper Peninsula and my art reflects those memories and that way of life. I have exhibited my work throughout the United States, Canada, Thailand, Japan, Indonesia, Philippines and Malaysia. I am currently back home but soon will head back to Asia for Exhibits in Thailand and then a circuit of Workshops in Japan. My favorite medium is Pen & Ink but I do use watercolors, charcoal, pencil and currently am introducing scratch art in my works.

Koh-I-Noor Clearprint Cross Country Project – “Gatherers”

I was recently chosen by Koh-I-Noor to be 1 of 10 Artists throughout the United States to add my Art to their Clearprint Cross Country Project.
We had 7 days to create and add our artwork to an Artists Pad where each artist creates artwork on one page of the Vellum pad and then it is sent to next Artist.
It was great fun and also a great honor to be chosen!

“Something Wicked this way comes…A hectic piece COMPLETED!

This work is now completed!
I really enjoyed creating this with no thought at all to where it was going and enjoyed it mostly 🙂
The next work I will be doing is actually something I was invited by Koh-I-Noor and Grumbacher to take part in. I will be receiving a packet from them in next few days where I will have 1 week to create a page in the Cross Country Artwork Book featuring Artists across the Country who have received an invite to take part! What an honor!

“Something Wicked this way comes…” A hectic piece – Day #35

The100DayProject

“Something wicked this way comes…”
18″ x 24″
Medium: Pen & Ink / Watercolor

The 100 Day Project will be a view of what I am doing in my Studio and without over a 100 day period.
As I create my works I will also attempt beginning an Arts Organization here in my hometown of Republic, Michigan.

DAY #35

I complete the hoody with some simple stippling to create folds and creases on the hooded jacket.
I then brush on a simple wash over it. Later when I will take an eraser and apply some softer tones simply by removing some of the wash to create highlights.
I then apply some very fine, soft stippling detail on the moon to create distant craters and shadow on the surface.
I then brush a very soft wash of yellow just barely visible.
And then I use a Xacto knife and begin scratching in very small distant stars onto the night sky and even a shooting star.

“Something Wicked this way comes…” A hectic piece #30

This piece has been the most fun headache I have ever created.
First I applied all the pen & ink work as I would my normal works I create.
Now I am applying all the simple watercolor washes throughout the piece in preparation of the Scratch Art portion of this piece.

As for Republic Arts Council “Mining the Arts” Festival the members continue to set up vendors, musicians and other entertainment.
The Township has been so helpful. We will have Main street closed along with connected side streets so everyone can walk freely without fear of vehicles. The few local businesses are readying themselves.
My biggest fear is the Artists and Craftpersons showing up.
These past 30 days of The 100 Day Project have been the busiest of my life and I know will get more and more hectic.
God help us 🙂

DAY #28

I begin applying a light wash around the tracks in the snow and also the snow laying on the pins branches.

We are finally ready with printing the applications and packets for Republic Arts Council 2014 1st Annual “Mining the Arts” Festival in beautiful Republic, Michigan.

“Something Wicked this way comes”…Day #19

I am creating my work using a single image that pops in my head every time I sit at the drawing table to work.

It has been very difficult to say the least!

Also during this time we have created the Republic Arts Council to help my small mining community of Republic, Michigan. We are trying to begin an Annual Arts & Crafts Festival here to aid in growing the community before it is gone…that has been tough but we forge ahead every day!
