7th Annual Community 100DayProject
2020 Theme: Secret Places
We are excited to announce two community art projects in 2020!
On December 21st, 2019 we are launching our Solstice to Equinox: Out of the Darkness Project. The Solstice project starts on the Winter Solstice, 12/21/19, and ends on the Spring Equinox, March 19th, 2020.
Following that, the 100DayProject – “Secret Places” – will start on January 22nd, 2020 and end April 30th, 2020.
To register your 2020 Project– and for more information about both Projects– see below.
The100DayProject
The theme chosen for 2020 is “Secret Places”. The theme highlights mystery and the myriad ways that it sustains and revitalizes creativity. It can be interpreted in a number of different ways – symbolically, metaphorically, or literally.
We offer a theme to participants as a nudge – if they are looking for one. It is purely optional.
There are many participants out there who have done numerous 100 day projects. They see the value in cultivating a habit and know about the power of the artistic process. Having a theme is just another way to engage in the project, change things up, and get the creative juices flowing.
Rules for doing a 100DayProject:
There are none – other than doing something hands-on with your project everyday during the 100 days – even if it’s just 5 minutes on some days.
Guidelines…if some structure or an assignment are desired, here are some guidelines:
- Center your project on one theme – it can be a broad as you like. What would love to explore for 13 weeks? Write it down. Let it be the North Star that guides your Project.
- Commit to doing something hands-on at least once a week.
- Keep it fresh, let it go where it takes you.
- Flow is the key word here.
- Don’t get caught up in quality.
- Consider this a first draft in the creative process.
- Relax your standards and expectations.
- Find a buddy or start a group to share your experience with.
Solstice to Equinox – Out of the Darkness into the Light Project
This second Community Arts project starts on the date of the Winter Solstice, 12/21/19 – and ends on the Spring Equinox, 3/19/20.
The Solstice Project invites you to study, document, journal, create, practice, explore, make, observe, or initiate something new each week. This is meant to be a weekly hands-on visual, written, or audio interpretation of whatever interests you during the 13 weeks between the Winter Solstice and the Spring Equinox. Whatever helps bring you out of the darkness….

There are none – other than doing something hands-on with your project at least once a week during the 13-week period.
